October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!
For over 20 years, Cybersecurity Awareness Month has been an annual global initiative to promote greater awareness about online safety and to provide resources and tools that empower individuals to stay safe online. This year’s focus is on the “Core 4” action steps that anyone, individuals and organizations, can take to significantly increase their online safety.

- Set updates to run automatically.
Use Strong Passwords
- Create long passwords (16 characters or more).
- Use a random mixture of upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Consider using a passphrase of 5-7 unrelated words.
- Create a new password for each account. Never reuse passwords.
- Use a password manager to keep your passwords secure.
Turn on Multifactor Authentication
- Use MFA for every account that offers it.
- Choose the most secure MFA option available for the account.
- Use a physical security key (such as a YubiKey).
Recognize and Report Phishing Scams
- Watch out for phishing and other scam attempts in emails, texts, direct messages, or phone calls.
- Always verify the sender before clicking on links or downloading attachments.
